My name is Jay Solman, and I am a registered Social Worker with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (MSW, RSW #15891). Originally from Toronto, I have over 20 years of experience helping individuals navigate various life challenges. My specialties include anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief, and issues particularly relevant to young adults and men. I employ a, client-centered approach rooted in evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques. However, there is no "cookie-cutter" approach that works for all clients and always strive to meet clients where they are at an draw from a range of modalities and tools that best meet the clients needs.
My personal journey, shaped by both triumphs and challenges, has been a profound force in shaping who I am today. I've come to understand that it is through adversity that we truly grow. The path is often winding, sometimes painful, and filled with obstacles, but it is precisely these struggles that teach us the most. When we reach the other side, we gain not only wisdom but also greater compassion—for ourselves and for those we care about.
I’ve been fortunate to learn from remarkable mentors whose guidance has been instrumental in my growth as a parent, therapist, and human being. Supporting others along their own journeys is something I find deeply fulfilling, especially because I know firsthand how daunting it can be to take that first step and ask for help. Embracing the wisdom of others isn't always easy, but by stepping into the unknown and adopting a growth mindset, we open ourselves to profound transformation.
If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be "eclectic." As someone who has been an ultra-marathon runner who participated in events all over the world including the Sahara, Atacama and Kalahari Deserts. I also have a love of art, painting and drawing and started out my journey as touring musician. All of these seemingly different lives and pursuits made me who I am. I believe our identities should never be confined by labels. We are multi-faceted beings, capable of growing and evolving in countless ways. Life is a vibrant tapestry, and we have the power to nurture every part of ourselves that brings meaning, joy, and fulfillment. By embracing all of who we are with kindness, curiosity, and an open heart, we unlock the true richness of the human experience.
